Have you tried floating in a sensory deprivation tank? You are definitely missing out if you have not! I recently had my third float and it was even more amazing than the first two! It seems like the more you do it, the better the experience is. I actually fell asleep on my last float, which means that I was comfortable in the tank. Before my first time I was super nervous and anxious because I didn’t know what to expect. If you have ever wanted to remember how it felt like to be in your mother’s womb or if you wonder how it feels to wander in space, I’m pretty sure that’s how floating feels – or both combined!
Reasons why I should NOT have tried floating
I was at first skeptical about floating. My main reason was that I am claustrophobic and was concerned about going into the tank. Any time I try a new experience, my anxiety gets the better of me, and I felt my anxiety escalating before my appointment. I also don’t swim, I am afraid of water actually. I was pushed into a swimming pool as a child and have never wanted to learn! So with all of that against me, I went to try the float anyway!
My Experience in the float tank
The water and air are the same temperature as your body! I had to reach my hand over my body to ensure that I was more than just a floating head! The tank that I was in was very large, so my claustrophobia did not kick in. I actually fell asleep on my last float, which means that I was comfortable in the tank. Before my first time I was super nervous and anxious because I didn’t know what to expect. We all fear the unknown, right?
There is a ton of epsom salt in the tank and your body soaks up the magnesium. The health benefits from regular floats are phenomenal! It can help with anxiety, sleep, stress, depression, aches and pains, PTSD and more. There is also other kind of benefits such as spiritual and it can help with creativity as well; on my last float, I had this blog in mind. I kept going over ideas in my head that I want to try.
Self care is important
I believe that it is very important for all of us to practice self care. As a woman, mother, entrepreneur, organizer, cook, maid… and all of the other hats that I wear on a daily basis, finding the time for self care activities is super important. I will be sure to fit floating into my schedule as much as I can.
If you find yourself near Appleton, Wisconsin, check out Float Light. Although it’s the only place that I’ve ever floated at, they have raised the bar really high for other float centers! You feel pampered from the moment when you walk through the door! By the way, I recommend the mango herbal tea after your float!
